WHAT. A. YEAR.
As we sit down to reflect on the past 12 months, we cannot believe all the things that happened in the span of just 365 days.
From being mentioned at the largest tech conference in the world to joining one of the best and most cutting-edge companies in the WordPress ecosystem, 2024 will be a year to remember.
Let’s revisit some of the highlights.
2024 was monumental for web performance and Core Web Vitals in particular. In March, Interaction to Next Paint officially replaced First Input Delay as the new interactivity metric.
These changes in how web page responsiveness is measured led to almost 600,000 websites that previously passed, failing the Core Web Vitals assessment.
As the leader in Core Web Vitals for yet another year, we introduced INP improvements that guarantee all NitroPack users a stable CWV pass rate.
Moreover, since the introduction of INP, we increased the percentage of NitroPack origins that pass Core Web Vitals from 42% to 52%:
In addition, NitroPack users continue to lead the way in two metrics most website owners struggle with: Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) and Total Page Weight.
66.34% of NitroPack’s websites with CrUX data on mobile and 70.39% on desktop have good LCP.
Furthermore, compared to other solutions in the WordPress ecosystem, the median total page weight of NitroPack-optimized websites is just 1,092.63 KB.
This means that the resources our users load are much lighter than their competitors, positioning them higher on the search engine results page (SERP) and providing a faster and better user experience.
But what stands behind these spectacular results?
Optimizations. Bug fixes. New releases. More optimizations.
Or if we had to translate that into numbers:
This year brought many incredible moments for us, but one truly surreal highlight stands out:
Being mentioned multiple times during Google I/O 2024, the tech giant’s most prestigious conference.
After the honor of being invited to last year’s edition, we were absolutely thrilled to hear NitroPack highlighted during the developer keynote. It was recognized as an example of a product leveraging Chrome’s Speculation Rules API to drive web performance optimization forward.
Hearing our name mentioned alongside groundbreaking technologies from Google was an indescribable moment for our team. It’s a true testament to our relentless efforts to make the web faster for everyone, as we firmly believe that a faster web benefits users, businesses, and communities worldwide.
We are beyond honored to have our work recognized on such a global stage. This recognition inspires us to continue innovating and pushing the boundaries of web performance.
In July, we proudly announced that NitroPack had joined the WP Engine family. This milestone marked the beginning of an exciting new era for our mission to make the web faster for everyone.
Being part of WP Engine, a global leader in WordPress hosting and digital experience platforms, has provided us with the resources, infrastructure, and expertise to take NitroPack to the next level. This partnership amplifies our ability to deliver cutting-edge website performance solutions to a broader audience while staying true to our core mission.
Heather Brunner, Chairwoman and CEO of WP Engine, summed up the meaning of this collaboration perfectly:
The past six months have been transformative, and we’re just getting started. With WP Engine’s support, we’re more energized than ever to push the boundaries of what’s possible and continue delivering the best tools for website performance optimization.
Stay tuned—our journey is only beginning!
Don’t get us wrong–getting mentioned at one of the biggest tech conferences in the world or being ranked as the leading Core Web Vitals solution feels amazing.
But…
Nothing compares with the feedback we get from our customers:
That’s why our favorite times of the year are when we get to meet some of our 230K+ users, who trust us to provide an exceptional user experience.
And in 2024, we got plenty of chances to meet with them all over the globe.
It’s no secret that the event that’s the dearest to our hearts is WordCamp. And this year, we sponsored all major ones – Asia, Europe, and the U.S.
In March, we attended our first WordCamp Asia in Taipei, Taiwan. The event was a vibrant convergence of over 1,800 participants from more than 70 countries. We were thrilled to partner with our booth neighbors, FastSpring, to create a unique raffle experience that captivated attendees, emphasizing the transformative power of speed in the online landscape.
June took us to Torino, Italy, for WordCamp Europe, where we participated in the inaugural WordCamp Connect sessions. This platform fostered open discussions and collaborative brainstorming, allowing us to engage directly with the community. We also offered 1:1 performance consultations, providing personalized advice to website owners seeking to enhance their site's speed and efficiency.
Additionally, we co-hosted a lively side event, "Ciao World," alongside Elementor and Cloudways, bringing together over 300 attendees for an evening of networking and fun.
September marked our participation in WordCamp US in Portland, Oregon—our first event as part of the WP Engine family. This year’s WordCamp US was notably extended to four days, offering even more opportunities for engagement and learning.
A highlight was the "Link & Clink" party we co-hosted with WP Engine, providing a relaxed environment for attendees to connect and celebrate our shared commitment to the WordPress community.
But that’s not all.
We’ve also attended:
The best part is that we have already started buying tickets and looking for events to sponsor in 2025.
So stay tuned!
Speculation Rules API, Long Animation Frames API, new Core Web Vitals metrics–the web performance world doesn’t stop for a second. Each month, a new technology promises to shift the entire industry.
That’s why we invest countless hours researching, testing, building, and creating resources that will give our users the upper hand in beating the competition.
Here are some of the highlights:
Contributing to the Web Almanac 2024 definitely ranks near our mention at Google I/O—it’s that big of a deal for us.
The Web Almanac is the ultimate annual report on the state of the web. It blends expert analysis and real-world data to uncover trends, challenges, and opportunities in web performance. It’s a cornerstone resource for anyone who cares about where the web is heading and how to improve it.
This year, we proudly contributed by co-authoring the CMS chapter and editing the Ecommerce chapter. Being part of this project gave us the opportunity to dive deep into two critical areas and share insights that help website owners and developers tackle real performance challenges.
We’re incredibly honored to give back to the community and work alongside some of the brightest minds who are literally shaping the future of the web performance industry. Collaborating with this passionate group was both humbling and inspiring.
Webinars are one of our favorite mediums for sharing knowledge and connecting with our users and the web performance community. This year, we had the opportunity to hold several events with some amazing experts.
We started the year by wrapping up our “Core Web Vitals for Your Business” series with Google. The last webinar discussed the impact the Speculation Rules API will have on the web performance industry.
Fast-forward to today, and we see many solutions implementing the latest technology, which enables website owners to provide their visitors with an instant page-loading experience.
Then, in the span of just a month, we co-hosted two events:
And at the risk of repeating ourselves, we’ve already started planning our webinars for next year, so follow us on social media to learn first when we announce the official dates!
One of our core beliefs is that:
“Exceptional support is just as important as delivering a great product.”
That’s why, in 2024, we doubled down on elevating our customer support experience, ensuring that every user gets the help they need faster and more efficiently than ever before.
The results speak for themselves:
In addition to improving real-time support, we also invested in expanding our Help Center resources to give users the tools they need to solve issues independently. We published 27 new Help Center articles and updated 60 existing ones, ensuring our resources stay fresh, accurate, and easy to navigate.
These efforts are all part of our commitment to being there for our users, no matter where they are in their journey. By combining human expertise with innovative tools like AI, we’re not just resolving issues—we’re empowering you to succeed.
As we look ahead to 2025, one thing is clear:
Our mission to make the web faster for everyone remains at the heart of everything we do.
The past year has shown us what’s possible when innovation, collaboration, and dedication come together, but we’re far from done. In 2025, we’ll continue to raise the bar—refining our optimizations, improving our service, and focusing on the tools and technologies that will give our users the ultimate performance edge.
From enhancing the quality of our support to staying ahead of new web performance trends, we’re committed to empowering our users with solutions that make a measurable impact.
We’re excited about what’s ahead and can’t wait to share more in the coming months.
Here’s to a 2025 filled with new challenges, smarter solutions, and faster websites!
